Visiting Lake Como in Vespa

ON YOUR VESPA

Italy is full of places that leave you gobsmacked for hundreds of reasons: one of these is Lake Como in Lombardy

Lake Como covers an area of about 145 square kilometres. A far-reaching territory, so much that Lake Como measures up to 45 kilometres in length, and just 4.5 kilometres in width. This means that to visit Lake Como by Vespa, it’s important to trace out a well-defined itinerary that will lead you to discover exceptional locations throughout the day.

The places of most historical interest include Bellagio, Menaggio, Cernobbio, Varenna. These towns are built along the lake shores and welcome thousands of tourists from all corners of the earth every year. Famous for their view of Lake Como, for their hotels, where history and luxury are solidly intertwined, and also for their well-known restaurants with a truly unique selection of lake cuisine.

Not to mention the many villas owned by wealthy noble families whose summer residences were built in Lake Como. Villa Melzi in Bellagio with its English gardens, and Cernobbio, one of the Lake’s most “Vip” locations with Villa Erba, Villa Bernasconi and the famous Villa d’Este, which today hosts one of the most luxurious hotels in the world.

Climbing onto a Vespa and discovering Lake Como also means being able to admire a landscape that will leave you speechless, either down by the lake or up towards the mountains. Discover villages with castles looking over the lake such as the Castello di Vezio, precisely in Varenna.

Getting around Lake Como on a Vespa

There’s a certain George Clooney, who along with a heap of other super Vips, has chosen to spend much of his time on the shores of Lake Como. The handsome George couldn’t have made a better choice. Because here, Beauty reins supreme!

You can choose to start by exploring the branch of the Lake that departs from Como, or the one that departs from Lecco. Both will lead you to discover places and landscapes of unrivalled natural beauty and charm.

With your Vespa, you can travel along the lake front, savour the scents and fragrances of a fresh water surface or climb up to the peaks of the mountains that naturally frame the lake.

From Como or Lecco, all roads lead to Bellagio, the pearl of Lake Como, a village built on the promontory overlooking the two banks of the lake. An unmissable stop to fully appreciate what it means to live on Lake Como: here the elegant villas make a fine show of themselves. A visit to the parks of Villa Serbelloni and Villa Melzi is therefore a must, not to mention Villa Balbianello, a much-admired location chosen by many Hollywood directors to shoot their films.

Exploring Lake Como by Vespa means spending a day in the open air in contact with nature. In addition to the numerous viewpoints scattered along the various pathways, you can also visit the villages and towns built on the hilltops overlooking the lake, from which to admire all its beauty.

Lake Como is also food and wine, let’s not forget! Lake specialities, but also dairy products and wine. During your Vespa tour, you can also discover the excellence of the local cuisine, fully representing the lifestyle of an Italian territory beyond compare.
